TEACHER WILDLIFE CONSERVATION WORKSHOP!
(in San Diego Safari Park!)
Imagine going to sleep at night hearing the lions roar...the lions that live about 150 feet from your tent! Then, picture watching a pregnant tiger look back at you from her maternity bed! Finally, think of your mom's reaction if you came home asking her,"Mom, How do I get giraffe slobber stains out of my shirt?"
Those are all experiences I was fortunate to have at my recent stay in the Wildlife Conservation Education Workshop for teachers last week!
We studied why it's so important to make sure animals on our planet do not become extinct. Even if you dislike mice, rats or specific insects..if they get obliterated from our planet, the food chain gets affected.(What will birds, wolves, snakes, cheetahs, bears, etc eat?)
Biodiversity is CRUCIAL for the health of our planet.
We will study genetics in 7th grade science this year- and look at DNA. We did that in San Diego: we extracted Condor DNA from the blood of a California Condor, but in class, we will look at other types of living things' DNA.
Anyway- lots of great experiences out here, and I hope to bring much of what I learned back to our classroom to share with you this year in SCIENCE!!!
This link is very engaging and fun if you want to know more about the Safari Park and Conservation-(games!)
