WORD ON THE STREET, IS THAT GB is THE BEST MIDDLE SCHOOL OUT THERE!
So I may be a little biased, but my students are the ones who seem to think this way too! If you are an upcoming 6th grader, or on the way up to us, we are excited to have you as a member of our Panther Student Family! These student advertisements posted below will give you a glimpse of what to look forward to!

A Little bit of 7B Science Happenings this year..... |

WHAT IS A WATERSHED?
Students are learning about water, land use, and water quality-and understanding the importance of a Watershed is the "glue" that fits those ideas together. A Watershed is all the land area that the water uphill drains into .Water flows downhill. What your neighbors upstream do to their land affects everyone DOWNSTREAM as well.
Science is based on models, and the students created models of a watershed . In the process of learning how to create, build and finally construct the actual design, students became more aware of the parts of a watershed and how they relate to the concept of land use and water quality.
These are the Honors Projects for Marking Period 4: I AM SO PROUD OF THE STUDENTS' HARD WORK!

TRIP TO THE BRANDYWINE ZOO: The students took an educational trip to our nearby city of Wilmington's Brandywine Zoo. Students have been learning about ethology: the study of animal behavior. During the trip they got to work with the zoo keepers and conduct an experiment about ways to keep zoo animals healthy and practicing their normal natural and instinctual behavior patterns.
The animals were given an "enrichment" designed to stimulate natural behaviors in their specific animal. They used data from their observations to determine if the enrichment was in fact beneficial to fostering behaviors the animal would normally have in the wild.

WE FOUND SOME DNA WITH THE HELP OF A CANCER CURING SCIENTIST!
In science, the students are learning about genes and where they are found. It's hard to picture the idea that genes are found in DNA which is a long strand, up to 6 feet long of thin genetic material packed into each of the trillions of cells in your body! Well, thanks to a REAL scientist from a famous pharmaceutical company, students were able to experiment and extract real DNA from cells of a strawberry.
It was a very special day for our students, especially since, Mrs. Richards-Peterson, the scientist, RECENTLY GOT AN ACTUAL CURE FOR CANCER APPROVED BY THE FDA! That's right! She FOUND A CURE for a type of MELANOMA (Skin cancer)!!

POLYMERS- In Enrichment
Look below: A very well done HONORS PROJECT- Marking period 2, 2013

Students who are in "non-honors" class do not HAVE to complete an Honors Project. It is purely based upon the student's personal motivation. This one was VERY nicely done- polished and professional in appearance, and most importantly, showed that the student LEARNED something and was able to analyze what he learned about.
