GRADING POLICY:
In my eyes, you all are stars of your classroom! HOWEVER, one of the important reasons you attend school is to LEARN and we need a way to evaluate how well you are LEARNING!
Here’s how to feel successful in science:
1. Appreciate and respect your time in class. Not everyone receives an education in this world and you are fortunate to have one. Make the most out of your 60 minutes spent here to help yourself!
2. Understand that grades are NOT a punishment! They don’t measure how “GOOD” or “BAD” you are. They just indicate if you know how to communicate to me that you understand what I am teaching you.
3. Know that you can SHINE in more than one way! I will measure how well you understand the important things you are supposed to know by looking at a variety of areas. For instance, if you are not a good test taker, there are plenty of other projects and labs and opportunities to show what you know.
That being stated, the VARIETY of AREAS you will be graded on is as follows, with the following weights to them:
Assessments
45%
Tests are a crucial part of education. Your assessments are directly linked to the State Standards.
Lab work
25%
The field of science is based upon scientific investigation. Performance in Lab Activities is an accurate method to see if you understand what is being taught to you.
Science Notebook
20%
Learning is not true learning without evaluation and reflection. You must keep a daily interactive notebook that will be evaluated by me.
Class work/Homework
10%
Homework, while it important to help you review what was learned in class, is not the most important method of evaluating you. Therefore, class activities and your papers you do in class also will be considered in this category.
By following these steps, you will definitely be SHINING SO BRIGHT in science; your report card will have a GLARE!
